My second year of tour guiding began with yet another assist on the Best of Europe II tour, this time with Dave Hoerlein as lead guide & mentor. He had so much good advice —just like Mary Carlson during the previous year— and gave me the confidence to become a lead guide myself. I still remember many people in this group & hope some of them will stumble upon this post!

The selection above comes from six rolls of film taken during the May portion of this trip. I can tell my composition is improving, but I’m still not able to handle exposure as much as I’d like. All in due time…

Observations: The crazy color effect on the Great Clock of Westminster isn’t Photoshop… I failed to place the lens correctly & extra light entered the camera. Still a pretty cool effect. If I remember correctly, that view of the cloud-covered Dolomites was in fact from my bathroom window in Castelrotto. Stunning. Stringing together Bruges > Trier > Burg Eltz > the Dolomites > Verona > Lago Maggiore > Monte-Carlo > Cassis > L’Isle-sur-le-Sorgue > Pont du Gard > Arles > Carcassonne > Cadaqués > Barcelona seems like such a whirlwind. How popular would this route be if offered today?

Hope you’ve enjoyed this glance at the past. Read about the genesis of this project, & please leave a comment below if you also remember this particular time & place.
