Visitors are divided on this immense sculpture garden in the midst of Frogner Park in Oslo. What is often described as a celebration of the human life cycle, I found sad, a bit depressing & often lacking in emotion. Or was it that Gustav Vigeland’s sculptures of violence were much more convincing than the ones of tenderness? For me, humanity has an intrinsic joy that seemed absent in each & every work of art. As much as I wanted to enjoy the experience, I left feeling down… so the installation did trigger emotions but not the ones I expected!
